she deserves she thinks it strange that Josie dont invite her in when she has Co it seems like ignorance or meanness on Josies part but never mind it is better to suffer wrong than do wrong Oct 23rd 1881 Oct 24th taught school one new scholar Oct 25 cool and looked like rain in the morning pleasant in afternoon had no fire I have a pleasant school Our supper was bread and jelly Bought a qt of milk after supper wrote in Lucys Autograph 26th taught school nothing particular to notice 27 (crossed out) Only we called at Mrs Hallets when we got most home met Emma (one of my scholars) who wanted us to supper with them I cut a pattern of a cloak for her 27 Taught school and took tea with Mrs Griffin and finished cutting the cloak She was very kind it makes one feel happy to meet with people who are kind 28 was (unreadable) to Mr Hallets took tea with them staid part of the evening and had a present of a goose finished nearly a mitten for Grace and sought some Examples in Philosophy and Arithmetic for Julia Sometimes ones head feels clear and heart lighter [PAGE BREAK] 29th rather misty this morning Julia went to town and did a little traiding for me I cleaned my floor baked and ironed in the evening my throat began to feel sore I took a few little remedies put a cold cloth on it and went to bed it felt bad but 11:30 this morning was better now it feels bad again I hope it is not going to be serious Mrs W acted rather cool but I tried to be pleasant and after a while she was very kind and good It is always best to not let little grievances disturb us too much We had a letter from dear father and the precious children That God would bless them all and make everything as pleasant for them as is for their good is my prayer 30th Today is Sunday (crossed out) I taught as usual Nov (unreadable) It has been nearly a week since I wrote school affairs moved along nicely I had two new scholars I have two teachers as my pupils Friday we had speaking and then spelled down Julia spelled the school down and done it fairly and beautifully She chose sides with Lucy a girl of 16 who drew all her scholars except one from her then Julia spelled against her whole side and done nicely Lucy said her side had the hardest words which was unjust for Julia spelled every word they missed It is bad to be envious I have spent the day with little Grace as Julia called upon a lady by request who lost her little daughter
