Spring Dance at Beta Theta Pi Fraternity Student Organizations Beta Theta Pi On the back it reads: "This photo shows one of the traditions of the Spring dance which in '47 and '48 was known as the "Beta German." When two guys invited the same girl to the party and she accepted one, they eventually ended up with what was known as "The Umbrella Dance" in which the girl danced with her date and the loser got a sucker to hold in his mouth and held the umbrella over the dancing couple.
