Manning's sister, Dawn, Lawrence sophomore, also said she doubled he would sign by today. "I don't think he be 'he here," she said. "I talked to him recently, but we really didn't talk much about that." Lamere said if Manning were to sign by noon today, he probably would make an appearance in the game. As of yesterday, 3,400 tickets had been sold in the 15,000-seat field seat of the Kansas station. The Kansas ticket office said the office had received 15 calls a day during the past week from people on the Manning's possible absence Kansas assistant athletic director Richard Konczan said Sports Productions Inc. the promoter of the team, is also investigating refunds. He also confirmed that canceling the game had been considered because of the poor ticket sales. "That is one thing that was discussed between the Clippers, Nets, Sports Productions and us." Konemz said "But the NBA would not allow the game to be canceled and that game had already agreed to play. "It's not our (the University's) call. We merely rented the arena for the students' management aspect. We're in charge of doing things like selling tickets, having people work at the scensers table, ushers and so on." New Jersey's public relations director John Mertz said the game would go on as scheduled. "The Nets agreed to play in the exhibition game against the Clippers in Lawrence, just like they agreed to play the Chicago Bulls (last night) in Columbus, Ohio." "They're so good, everytime they play us, they should allow us runs before the game begins." Lasarda said he told his players before the game that "we don't have Gibson, we don't have Marshall and we don't have the MVP. Every year, everybody expects us to fold this tent and lie. I said, You guys are going to show them that you've been winners all season and you're being given them with whoever goes out there." He relieved starter Tim Belcher with two outs in the seventh and the Jodgers ahead 4-3, but a walk and error loaded the bases. Who went out there was Howell, and this time he didn't let his teammates down. McGwire, 1-for-13 in the Series, swung at a first-pitch fastball and pitched it straight up to first baseman Tracy Wooden. Howell finished for a save in the same ballpark where fans left the game when he picked up the Athelites. Dave Henderson, who had four of Oakland's nine hits, doubled home Walt Weiss, who singled, in the seventh. That finished Belcher, and Howell walked Canseco on five pitches before it really reliably scored. It was that line in the bases by Parker, loading the bases and bringing up McGwire. Veteran player John Ogden works to improve his putting By Ken Winford Kansan sportswriter While fourth-year junior John Ogden may not get the attention All-American teammate John Sinovice receives, every member of the Kansas golf team, including Ogden him, knows the importance of his role. "I feel like John (Simu), Ricky (Zupetz) and myself need to lead the team," said Ogden, a two-year Jay-Z alumnus. "We've been around the program for the longest, and we have the experience. A player that's been here three or four years knows what happened, and we're coming in to new to the program "If we as a team are going to be challenged, and we have the ability to Body and I have to be the culprit. The last few tournaments, all our games have been disappointing, and I am so happy." Kansas started its fall season by winning the Kansas invitational on Saturday at the College. Ogden, who was tied for the individual lead after two rounds, eventually finished third behind Simov and Missouri golfer Jim Cain. The last two tournaments haven't finished yet. The first one was finished last four over at the Butler National Intercollegiate tournament in Oak Brook, III, and ninth at last over at St. Petersburg, FL. Ogden, along with Sinovic, shares the team's low stroke average of 75. Kansas coach Ross Randall said it was just a matter of time before Ogden said he took the Jayhawks' performances personal. "The last couple of tournaments have been very disappointing for us." Ogden said. "It's frustrating for me because I'm not playing as well as I can. I know I can. For the most part, I played well, but my putting just had a little bit more. My short game killed me in all three tournaments this fall." Ogden improved his putting game. "John is the hardest worker on the team." Randall said. "He has tremendous potential because he hits the ball so far with consistency. If he can do that, his team's victory has done, he will be one of the top college players in the country." "The difficult thing about his situation is that to put better you have to be tougher. You need to dance you have to put better. It's a vicious circle. But he's going to be a tough player to beat when he gets his skills back and I think it will happen." Ogden posted a stroke average of 73 last summer. He, along with teammates Sinovic and junior Clary Devers, is in contention for the Kansas Amateur Golf of the Year. Ogden also won the Kansas Amateur Golf Association. Randall said it was important for Ogden to perform consistently for the Javahaws. "It's key for him to come through, with good scores." Randall said. "He and Sinovic have the potential to shoot sub-par scores every time they go out. They know if you get some going, the whole team will do well." "There is some pretty tough competition on the team. They all want each other to play well, but inside they all want to be the best. They all want to lose to anyone, even their teammates. That's the way it should be." "One of the reasons I chose golf, my basketball was because golf is a sport where you have to play golf, nobody else is helping you make the shot. If you miss it, there is no one here." Odgen, who was a standout basketball player at Washington High School in Kansas City, Kan., said he played with the St. Louis golf over college in basketball. "I want to have the low stroke average. I haven't won any tournaments yet, and I want to win more than one. But I'm more interested in how the team does." John Ogden, Kansas City, Kan., junior practices with the Kansas golf team at Alavera Country Club junior. The team is preparing for the Big Ten season. Ogden said it was important for him to do well at next month's Miami Sun and Fun Collegiate tournament. "That's our last tournament before and I want to finish off the fall shows," he said. "We've been working hard in practice, and I think it's just a matter of time before we can compete." My intent was never to implicate the coaching staffs of UNLV or UCLA or to reflect negatively upon you (UNLV) or I called (UNLV coach) Jeremy Hartrick with whom I have been friends for many years, and also Jim Harrick at UCLA, to explain that I had been accepted. Both accepted my explanation." There was no immediate comment from either UCLA or UNLV. Mark Dellins, UCLA's sports information director, said Athletic Direc tor Peter Dalis was out of town last night but would make a statement upon his return today. Joyce Aschenbrenner, UNLV's sports information director, said she could not reach Tarkanian at home. She said Athletic Director Dr. Rothermel was out of town and not available for comment. Dellins did not try for a comment from coach Jim Harrod, who was not at UCLA that the Emery occurred. The story became known when UCLA announced it had fired Walt Haird竞赛 was hired April 12. Casey acknowledges sending the package earlier this year but says it contained only the video tape. He says he is convinced that two or more people from Mills to taint Kentucky's recruitment of Mills, so UCLA could sign him. In the article, Casey alleges that at least two other passages sent to the police were mistakenly or misrobed. Emery officials have denied any involvement in the incident.
