State employees : no passing phase State employees are taking home an averages pay increase of 6.5 percent this year. But Phase III of a salary equity study that would have helped service and security personnel was blocked. Jessie will continue to battle for state employees. For fairness' sake. And with tireless will. Jessie doesn't quit. This summer she asked local legislators to join her in writing a letter requesting the governor to implement Phase III. One person even thought President Reagan leads Britain's socialist Labor Party, although 90 percent correctly identified the opposition leader as Nell Kinch, the survey found. The survey of 994 people published in The Sunday Times of London, was conducted last year by the Open Access Research International. The newspaper called it a 'knowledge of geography, mathematics, common The newspaper said the 18 question test was "hit", but "many of the replies were enough to break" them down. The survey found 83 percent of the sample population could find Britain on a world map, but 7 percent did no where to look. Others placed it of the coast or off South Africa, in the Far East or in Africa. Asked to spell "embarrass," "satellite" and "exercise," one in 10 immediately threw their hands in defeat. The newspaper said Fifty-nine incorrectly, and 28 percent threw their "satellite" incorrectly, and 28 percent failed "exercise." Mathematics added to the problem, the newspaper said. Asked to add menu prices for the total cent of a hamburger, french fries, apple pie and 42 percent got it wrong or were unable to try. People aged 13-24 failed the word in the survey, a newspaper said, and women generally did worse than men. Professor David Hargreaves of Cambridge University was quoted as saying the poor results by young people showed Britain was "in danger of producing a generation of ignoramous." Florida authorities nab obscene bumper sticker The Associated Press Education Minister Angela Rubmel was quoted as describing the results as "most depressing." NALEPS, Fla. — A man whose pickup truck struck a bumper sticker with a four-letter word was chased by police and charged with violating Florida's new law banning obscene stickers. Glenm Wallace Beasley, 25 in January in rained哭事, six days later, unable to post $3,225 bail on charges of ffeeing, attempting to elude police and violating county laws, appearing in county court tomorron. Sheriff's deputy Jorge Morera tried to pull over Beasley's truck Tuesday after seeing stickers on his hammer. One sticker read "Life's a Beach," another had the four-letter word. Having an obscene bumper sticker or decal is a second-degree misdemeanor in Florida, punishable by six months in jail and a $50 fine. The driver sped off and jumped out of his pickup at a dead-end street. Morena said. Police found him later hiding along the beach. "I was wondering when we were going to get our first one," State Attorney Joseph D'Alessandro. 'Mikki Maus,' Disney enjoy successful Soviet premiere The Associated Press MOSCOW — Here he's called "Mikki Maus," and the 69-year-old American has surprisingly good rapport with Soviet youngsters for an international film star making his appearance in the Soviet Union'. Last night in Moscow the 2,500-room Rossiya Theater, with a police cordon worthy of a minor head state outside the first Soviet festival of music in Moscow, where it opened with a showing of "Fantasia" and a visit by Mickey Mouse himself. Standing about 5 feet, 6 inches in his clunky black patent leather shoes, Mickey, played by Gabrielle Sipeth from Walt Disney's West German office, strolled waving down the theatre and睦 the straits of "Heigh Ho. He Ho." to Work On You The lights dimmed, and the Rossi- a's screen filled with the image of Donald Duck in the 1941 short subject "Donald's Crime," in which he pur- sely contents of a piggy bank to night a nightclub outing with Daisy. In a Russian-language voice, minus the squawking tones in which Donald usually speaks in English, French and other Western languages, the duck concluded: "Crime does not pay."
