Pope's speech interrupted Party leader renounces pontiff as anti-Christ The Associated Press STRAUBSOU, GREAT — The Rev. Ian Paisley, a militant Protestant member from Northern Ireland, shouted "I renounce you the anti-Christ" as Pope John Paul II spoke of unity yesterday to the European Parliament. Paisley's outburst came as the pontifex began delivering the key speech in his trip to northeastern France. In the speech, he urged Europe to adopt a common political body that would be a representative of the 12-member European Economic Community. The pope returned to Rome last night, ending the fourth visit. He briefed him with Premier Michel Rocard after a meeting. Paisley stood by his desk in the back of the assembly chamber during welcoming remarks by Lord Plumb, president of the Parliament. As the Pope began speaking, he was immediately interrupted by Paisley who was standing about 11 rows from the pontifix. "I renounce you! I renounce you to the anti-Christ," sappled Shailey, leader of the Irish Protestant Democratic Unionist Party. He was instantly surrounded by about a dozen deputies to the Parliament. They shouted for an assault, threw paper at him and tore from his hands a crude brome barring读物; "Pope John Paul II, anti-Christ." Plumb twice called for order and then evicted Paisley to the apollice of deputies and an estimated 300 scones.
