Thursday, November 30, 1967 UNIVERSITY DAILY KANSAN 7 Peace Corps to be here Dec. 4-9 Next week has been declared Peace Corps Week in Lawrence. Richard Raney, Lawrence mayor; Kyle Craig, student body president, and the All-Student Council have preclaimed the event, and a team of Peace Corps workers will be visiting the campus as part of a nationwide search for volunteers. The Corps has had remarkable success during its six-year history and recently Congress extended the Corps until next July 1. Clifton to advise UN Clifton will travel to New York Dec. 4 to work with the international seminar, which is aimed at improvement of world slum areas. James Clifton, associate professor of anthropology at KU, has been appointed consulate to the United Nations Center for Housing. Building and Planning. Seminar members are seeking to develop programs and methods for improving housing,style of life and economic conditions of squatters who are invading urban areas of the world in increasingly large numbers. Clifton's task will be to advise on specific conditions in Chile and on the use of anthropological knowledge and methods to develop self-help programs in these squatter communities. In fact, the Peace Corps has been so successful that it cannot meet the demand by foreign countries for its members. There will be seven Peace Corps volunteers on campus next week: Jack Galloway, a 1963 KU graduate, who served in Uruguay; Craig Dastrom, who worked in Guatemala; Jon Keeton, who worked as an English supervisor in Thailand; Jess During the week of Dec. 4 these people will be available for classroom visits and also in the lobby of the Kansas Union and the basement of Strong Hall to pass out information and discuss the Peace Corps with all interested persons. Two films about Corps life in Brazil and Moroco will be shown Monday through Thursday in the Forum Room of the Kansas Union. Peace Corps qualifying tests will also be given at various times Tuesday through Saturday. Exact times will be announced later. The Engineerettes have been making paper mache pig banks to raise money for the "Put Hubby Through" banquet in the spring, said Mrs. Douglas New, president of the club.
