4 UNIVERSITY DAILY KANSAN Tuesday, November 28, 1967 'Back of the Week' won by Bob Douglass By Josef H. Hebert KANSAS CITY, Mo.—(UPI)—Rangy Bob Douglass, who didn't win his spurs with the Kansas Jayhawks until last Spring, today was voted the Big Eight Back of the Week for the second time this season. Douglass, one of the most prolific passers in Big Eight history, came within eight yards of equaling the conference total offense record, in leading Kansas past arch rival Missouri 17-6 Saturday. The El Dorado, Kan., junior connected on six of 11 passes for 117 yards and ran for 35 yards against Missouri's tough defense to record 1,741 yards for the season, only eight short of the mark of 1,749, set by Tim Van Galder of Iowa State in 1966. One of the 6-foot-3 signal callers aerials was a 52-yard bomb to Ben Olison, giving the Jayhawks a 7-6 lead, a deficit from which the Tigers never recovered. Douglass, the only athlete to win the honor twice this season, also was the key to Kansas' field goal drive. He ran 19 yards and riffed passes of 11 and 14 yards to set up the three-pointer on the Missouri 19. The southpaw flinger moved into the No. 1 quarterback job this year after playing behind Bobby Skahan, Dave Bouda and Bill Fenton in 1966. Meylan top choice Nebraska's All-American guard Wayne Meylan was voted the Big Eight Lineman of the Week Monday for his performance against Oklahoma. Meylan recorded eight unassisted tackles, five of them behind the line of scrimmage, despite a 21-14 defeat handed down by the Orange Bowl-bound Sooners. UN votes today on Red China It was the third time this season that Meylan won the coveted award. Previously he had been selected for his work against Oklahoma State and against Washington. UNITED NATIONS — (UPI) — The annual question of admitting Communist China to the United Nations headed for a vote today in the General Assembly. As in 17 votes in the past 18 years, the United States and Nationalist China are expected to have the votes to keep Red China out. Positions taken by nations in the debate by more than a third of the member nations indicated the lines drawn last year would hold up this year. Albania and 10 cosponsors offered a measure to unseat Nationalist China in favor of Peking. The United States and 14 cosponsors proposed a resolution to impose a two-thirds majority on any change in Chinese representation. Italy and four allies proposed the whole question go to a special study committee. Diplomatic observers predicted Monday that the vote favoring Nationalist China's over Peking would be at least as great as last year's 57-46 with 11 abstentions.
