County to buy new cars Douglas County commissioners yesterday approved the purchase of six new cars for the Douglas County Sheriff's Department from Jim Clark Motors, Inc. The commissioners deferred until next week a decision on the number of county-users. The bid from Jim Clark Motors was the lowest of two sealed bids received by the company. The six cars would cost $29,933 with the two cars and $27,493 with a trade-in of four cars. The new cars would bring the total of department cars to 11 or 12, depending on the number of cars traded. The department now has 10 cars. Rex Johnson, county sheriff, said yesterday that cars were moving at 80,000 miles per hour. He said the county would need to increase its number of cars during the next few years. In other action, the commissioners appointed Ted Taul, Baldwin City, to a three-year term on the Douglas County Board of Zoning Appeals. Taul replaced Hubert Hoskinson, whose term expired last month.
