Tie-up forces big cut in physicals for draft
Physical exams for Kansas Selective Service registrants have been reduced 50 per cent because of a lack of congressional appropriations.
The appropriations, which are part of the Independent Offices and Department of Housing and Urban Development bill, are tied up in a congressional conference committee.
Because the appropriations are part of a larger bill, the Selective Service will receive no additional money until the entire bill is passed.
Under normal financial conditions, the Selective Service calls in eight men for physical examinations for every one man needed to fill the state quota.
Without the additional operating funds, the Selective Service has reduced the number of men called to four.
Cost of each examination, which includes transportation to Kansas City and overnight room and board, is about $40.
Cancels workshop
The All Campus Publicity Workshop planned Saturday by Theta Sigma Phi, women's journalism organization, has been cancelled, announced Elizabeth Rhodes, Seattle, Wash., senior and president of Theta Sigma Phi. Miss Rhodes said registration fees already turned in will be returned.
