14 UNIVERSITY DAILY KANSAN Tuesday, October 17, 1967 Supreme Court takes case on parochial aid WASHINGTON -(UPI)—The Supreme Court announced Monday it will decide this term whether precedent - setting 1965 legislation allowing federal aid to church-operated schools is constitutional. Six New York City residents brought an appeal, claiming the school program violates the First Amendment mandate requiring separation of church and state. The court agreed to hear oral arguments on the issue and hand down a written opinion later. The outcome of the case could have widespread repercussions on other federal assistance to colleges and universities and anti- poverty programs such as Head Start.
