Schiefelbusch, director of the bureau and professor of speech and drama, conducted a graduate seminar in language development. He also acted as a consultant in the development of a communications research project. The project is designed to develop better understanding between persons of different backgrounds. Donald M. Baer, research associate of the bureau and head of the KU child development division in the department of human development, conducted another graduate seminar—in behavior modification. He also taught a course in developmental psychology. Joseph Spradlin, associate director of the bureau, and James Lent, director of a demonstration program for the training of mentally retarded girls at Parsons State Hospital and Training Center, directed two workshops in behavior modification techniques.
