'Hawks scrimmage Baker in mud

The field conditions were 'the best and the rules weren't unappetizing, but the 1980 Kansas baseball season got off to an unhappy start.'
Baker University visited Quigley Field and the Jayhaws and the Wildcats locked up in a scrimmage that resembled something played on a sandlot. There was no winner or loser, but the game was kept. In fact, there were never even a base runner.
'I called Coach (Keith) Hackett about 2 o'clock and we said they would take me to the Floyd Tempel, KU coach, said. We really appreciated the fact that they could come over on such short notice. It helped us and it helped them. We both needed to get outside to watch the game.'
