(UCP) - The Carolina Cougars set off a new American Basketball Association controversy Tuesday by kicking Kentucky star Jim McDamnes, the draft pick of the ABA UTAh Stats. "Cougar General Manager Carli Scheer, in one breath, called it "the largest contract ever paid to a professional basketball player" who knowledge he had no release from Utah to even talk to McDaniels. "Jim McDaniels either plays with the Utah Stars or he won't play in the ABA," Utah General Manager Vince Boryse told newsstands. Scheer said that while he had no agreement with Utah to release its rights to McDaniels, the team would have an interest of all ball clubs in the ABA.
