"Higher education can't be a luxury," Obama said. "It's an economic imperative that every family in America should be able to afford." He said that it's not enough to increase government aid to students. "We can't just keep subsidizing skyrocketing tuition," he said. "We'll run out of money." In addition, Obama warned colleges and universities that if they couldn't find ways to stop ever-increasing tuition prices, he would limit amount of federal financial aid they're eligible to receive. "So let me put colleges and universities on notice: If you can't stop tuition from going up," he said, "the funding you get from taxpayers will go down." He recommended extending the tuition tax credit, doubling the number of work-study jobs in the next five years and urged legislators to prevent the interest rates on student loans from doubling in July. Utility workers used heavy machinery to grind up the wrongly placed "H" and "C" in the "SHOCOL X-K" sign on Tuesday. The words were created with industrial textured tape that permanently sticks to the asphalt. The correction was made a day after the New York Post reported the spelling error.
