Page 8 University Daily Kansan Tuesday, Oct. 30, 1962 University Party Election Platform IN ACCORDANCE with the University's policy of placing emphasis on posi- tivity community, we respectfully submit the following platform; 1. THE UNIVERSITY PARTY believes that it is the responsibility of every student to be able to speak knowledgeably and with conviction about his University, its policies and its achievements. This belief is reflected in previous administration this end, especially as it is reflected in the goals and achievements of the Statewide Activities Organization, has been ignored and grossly aborted by the demands which petty politics and political gnamsemanagement have caused during those past administrations. The University Party pledges itself to support the Statewide Activities Committee and other such organizations in an attempt to undertake a revitalized and envolved program of student queues at Kansai University to be an enthusiastic, ardent, and knowledgeable representative of the University of Kansas. THE UNIVERSITY PARTY advocates, in order to help implement the achievement of the principles of greater service by students at an institution of an eight-man Speakers Bureau composed of scholastic and extracurricular campus leaders of at least Sophomore standing to serve as representatives of Kansas and the nation as authorized representatives of the University and charged with the responsibility of fussing the leading intellectual institution in the Middlewest. D. THE UNIVERSITY PARTY, recognizing that the Student Loan Fund and other similar organizations which provide funds to students of limited means in order that they may continue their education may feel necessary have been severely depleted this year and recognizing that the great influx of students expected within the next ten years at the University will place further strains upon the funds provided by the University for investigation of further sources of revenue for these funds. In order to implement this proposal the University Party advocates the creation of an All Student Council committee on Loans and Scholarships; the College Aid and Awards Office, the University Endowment Association and the Statewide Activities Committee. 11. THE UNIVERSITY PARTY supports, in the political realm, the College intermediary Board in its efforts to establish a Big Eight Bowl competition and the implementation of an improved system of senior enrollment. J. VINUISIERY PARTY proposes that ASC. attempt to limit itself to consider the students of KU. We find it ironic that the ASC should spend its valuable and extremely limited time in comment upon or in condemnation of events beyond which represents every student attending the University. The Anderson-Saffels debate scheduled Wednesday to initiate political emphasis week here has been called off because of conflicts in the candidates' schedules. Candidates Cancel Out An election forum to replace it will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Jayhawk Room of the Kansas Union. Members will discuss the regional and national issues in the coming state election. V. THE UNIVERSITY PARTY believes that in order to achieve its goal of positive contribution to the University community, the entire student body, Greek and Independent, must work together toward common goals. With this end constantly in mind, the University Party will continue to espouse the ideal of students to be independent in all phases of campus life. This co-operation which University Party has provided stands in unfortunate contrast to other political parties. The forum members are Pete Aylward, Ellsworth senior, president of the Young Democrats; Reuben McCornack, Abilene junior, president of the Young Republicans; Earl Nehring and James E. Titus, assistant professors of political science. Also during political emphasis week will be a Young Republican public opinion poll, a display of political cartoons in the Kansas Union and an election night party. Nov. 6. VII. THE UNIVERSITY PARTY formally declares its intention to conduct a Student Political Education Campaign known as SPEC. This will not only involve the use of this skill and political activity can and should play in any intelligent person's activity. We feel that the training one can receive in political responsibility in a campus setting can be invaluable to students, especially those responsible citizen. In an attempt to further these aims, the University Party calls upon all students and those chosen to represent them to deploy the use of the ASC by certain campus political parties as a club to which finance is gained at the whim of party power politics. VIII. THE UNIVERSITY PARTY again this fall calls for the creation of a Merit Commission to insure impartiality in the appointment of persons to ASC committees. In addition to the creation of a Office of the Creation Party calls for a general unification of committees, the submission of a formal statement of general aims and goals and proposed specific accomplishments or areas within which specific accomplishments are expected to be achieved year by year by the chairman of every committee, and a system of formal recognition by an impartial faculty board for outstanding service by an individual to the ASC committee system for women with poor record in their education most to the realization of the goals of the committee to which he has been assigned. VI. UNIVERSITY PARTY will continue to work for a strong and effective Human Rights Committee in order to ensure that the original support which led to the creation of the Human Rights Committee. The aim of the HRC should be the mere maintenance of minority groups consistent with the reduction of mis-understanding among the University community. The committee should provide obligations from all students and organizations dedicated to the furtherance of Human Rights, (2) ACTIVE leadership in achieving full and equal Human Rights within the relation between the affected body, the ASC and the University administration. IX. THE UNIVERSITY PARTY again this Fall calls for the allocation of ASC funds to each class in order that the duties of each of the class officers might be made more meaningful and in one way better suited to the constituents by whom they were elected might be more meaningful to the students of each class.
