In a conversation after the meeting, Nancy Lane, Hoisington junior, and UP independent co-chairman said she objected to a statement appearing in the University Daily Kansan which said the UP platform included a stand that the ASC should take an active interest in world affairs. "UP DOES NOT believe this," she said. "We said that there should be an individual interest in world affairs, not an interest through the ASC." Other UP members criticized the Vox platform plank which called for additional traffic entrances to Temolin, Hashinger, and Lewis. "UP is not opposed to roads there, but we know as members of UP we cannot put roads there, so why put it in the party platform," said Miss Lane. ANOTHER MEMBER remarked, "We are glad to hear that Vox is supporting a plan that the University has already put into motion." Miss Lane also objected to a Vox plank that proposed investigation of food and sanitation conditions in dormitories by the ASC. "If there is a food problem, we feel that this is being handled within each individual residence hall." SPU to Explain Protest March The Student Peace Union (SPU) said it arranged meetings with administration officials to present a statement on the group's opposition to President Kennedy's Cuban policy. A meeting was also being arranged at the Soviet Embassy. The SPU planned weekend demonstrations in more than a dozen cities and a picket line in front of the White House tomorrow. Meanwhile counter-picket plans were announced by a conservative student organization. The Young Americans for Freedom (YAF) called on Washingtonians to help demonstrate that "the American people are solidly behind the President in his Cuban policy." Robert Bauman, chairman of YAF, used the word "appeasement" to describe those protesting the blockade.
