Page 10 University Daily Kansan Thursday, Oct. 25, 1962 Anderson-Saffels Meet in Debate Kansas' two gubernatorial candidates will meet face-to-face at 9 o'clock tonight on a WIBW radio-television "little great debate." The announcement came after Democratic candidates told a rally here last night that Republicans had refused challenges to debate. A similar debate will be held at 6:30 p.m. Saturday over WIBW between Sen. James B. Pearson and his Democratic opponent, Paul L. Aylward. AT THE DEMOCRATIC rally Dale Saffels, Democratic candidate for governor, blasted the Republican administration for "the mess in Topeka." He criticized what he termed "the state's downward economic trend" and its lack of industrial development. He said Kansas should expand University facilities here where research vital to industry could be accomplished. He said trained students here must go to some other area of the country for work. "I CAN VISUALIZE the entire Kaw River Valley as the site of a gigantic industrial complex, something my opponent can neither comprehend or make into a reality for you," Saffels added. The Democrats referred to Gov. Anderson as "Big Brother" on a campaign poster called the "Republican Commandments." It read: They shall steal. Thou shall bind thy brother's books. Thou shalt not commit adultery unless at a penal institution for thy Big Brother protects thee. Thou shall line thy Big Brother's pocket. Thou shall build highways across thy brother's land. Thou shall not drink unless driving for thy Big Brother watches thee. Thou shall be a dry unless at thy private club. It shall be a dry unless at thy private club. Blessed are the taxpayers for they shall be drained Journalism Conference To Convene Saturday The 44th annual Kansas High School Journalism Conference will be held here Saturday.
