Page.6 University Daily Kansan Wednesday, Oct. 24, 1962 Kansas Frosh Meet K-State Tomorrow Freshman football coach Tom Triplett is making no predictions about the Junior Jayhawkers' opening game of the season tomorrow against Kansas State at Manhattan. Kickoff time is 2:30 p.m. "We really won't know what kind of a team we have until we play K-State," he said, "because our boys haven't been tested under fire. It's a big jump from high school to college ball, so we'll just have to wait and see what we have." However, Triplett indicated that the freshman backfield was "promising." "We've got good speed in the backfield this season," he said, "and we're a little deeper there than we were last year." The probable KU starting lineup is: George Worley, Grandview, Mo, and Bob Reid, Riverside, Calif. ends; Dick Bacon, Neodesha, and Agenhart Ellison, Honolulu, Hawaii; tackles; Bob Bible, Kansas City, Mo., and George Hornung, Spear- ville, guards; Jim Shanks, North Kansas City, Mo.; center; Don Davis, Wichita, quarterback; Mike Johnson, Garden City, halfback; Greg Roth, Hays, slot-back, and Kent Craft, Council Grove, fullback. K-State's probable starting lineup is as follows: Willie Jones and Bill Matan, ends; John Caril and Bill Darnell, tackles; Warren Klawiter and Phil King, guards; Dan Woodward, center; Jim Greschus, quarterback; Steve Meats and Ronnie Morrel, halfbacks, and Glenn Miller, fullback. Last year Coach Triplett's fresh eleven beat the Wildcats, 21-0, in Memorial Stadium. Against the Missouri freshmen, the Jayhawker's home opponent this season, KU gained a 21-21 draw. Gayle Sayers, the starting T-back on this year's varsity eleven, scored all six touchdowns for last year's freshman team. He netted 321 yards rushing in 21 carries. Other Fight Results: Boston—Joe De Nucci, 163, Newton, Mass., stopped Vernon Lamar, 158, Brunswick, N. J. (9). New York — Joe Salci, $145\frac{1}{2}$, Wilkes Barre, Pa., outpointed Carlos Quiles. 142. Puerto Rico (8). Houston—Cleveland Williams, 207. Houston, knocked out Dave Bailey, 215. Philadelphia (5). Betas, Sigma Chis Score IM Wins Beta Theta Pi notched its fourth straight win yesterday afternoon by whipping Delta Tau Delta, 20-0, while Sigma Chi stayed right behind the Betas in Division I standings by blasting Tau Kappa Epsilon, 47-6. The Beta win moved their record to 4-0. The Sigma Chis now hold a 3-1 mark. The off-and-on Beta offense, led by quarterback Morgan Metecalf, and receivers Bill Geiger, Jim Emerson, and Don Warner, scored the first time they had the ball, marching 40 yards in six plays. THE TOUCHDOWN came on a 10-yard pass from Metcalf to Geiger and Bob Swan added the conversion. But after the initial thrust in the first period, the Betas failed to move the ball inside the Delt 20 during the remainder of the first half. Penalties were the culprit—the Betas pulled 65 yards worth of them during the game. But a sturdy defense, led by rushers John McCormick, Karl Kreutziger, Keith Kreutziger, and middle linebacker Jim Emerson, kept Delt quarterback Steve Lunsford moving most of the afternoon. The Beta offensive, however, struck quickly in the second half on two long, third-quarter pass plays to push the Delts under. The blitz began on the second play Tiger Captures Middle Crown Dick Tiger of Nigeria won a unanimous 15-round decision over Gene Fullmer, of West Jordan, Utah, last night and captured the World Boxing Association's middleweight championship. The ex-champion Fullmer, an elder in the Mormon Church, had not lost in his last 17 fights, and had successfully defended his crown seven times since he won the title in August, 1559. Baughman Will Start Armand Baughman has received the starting nod at fullback from Coach Jack Mitchell for Kansas' game with Oklahoma State at Stillwater. Mitchell said Baughman played better than the other fullbacks during last Saturday's 13-7 loss to Oklahoma. The coach particularly noted Baughman's play on defense. of the period when Metcalf ripped a 35-ward strike to Emerson for the touchdown, and then threw to Geiger for the extra point. Two minutes later, Metcalf found Don Warner alone on the Delt 10, and hit him with a 42-yard aerial. Swan's conversion attempt was wide. THE SIGMA CHIS had trouble, too for the first two minutes. Tau Kappa Epsilon moved the ball 40 yards in four plays to grab a short-lived 6-10 lead over the Sigs. Their touchdown came on a 12-yard pitch from Don Reusch to Dick Richardson. Then Sigma Chi quarterback Bob Benz started throwing touchdown passes. He hit John Hornung and Norm Schwarzkopch twice for scores, and threw three other six-pointers to Phil Troutwine, John Rader, and Dick Rader. In addition, Benz booted three extra points and passed for two more. THE BETAS and Sigma Chis meet next Monday, and the outcome of that game will decide the Division I championship. If the Betas, currently the Division I leaders with a 4-0 mark, should lose to the Sigma Chis (3-1), the result could be a three-way tie for the division crown, provided that Sigma Alpha Epsilon (2-1) can win today over Lambda Chi Alpha and again next Monday over the Delts. This would leave the three teams with identical 4-1 records, and one of the teams would have to be eliminated in the playoffs for the Hill championship by the toss of a coin.
