Page 5 Political Program To Begin Tomorrow An informal coffee for state Democratic party candidates tomorrow afternoon will inaugurate a "political emphasis program" that ends Nov. 7 with an election night party. The coffee will be held at 4:15 p.m. in Room 306 of the Kansas Union with all major Democratic candidates present. Students will have a chance to meet and to talk with the candidates informally at this time. DEMOCRATIC PARTY candidates from Douglas county will also be present. Major Republican party candidates will be guests at a coffee here next Tuesday in another prelude to Political Emphasis Week, which officially starts Oct. 31 and ends Nov. 7. Political Emphasis Week program will feature a public opinion poll conducted by the Young Republicans, a display of political cartoons and literature in the Kansas Union, a debate between the Young Republicans and the Young Democrats on Oct. 31, and a party Nov. 7. The election night party, sponsored by Student Union Activities will monitor election returns by television in the ballroom and by direct telephone line to the Lawrence Journal-World. A BAND WILL play the first hour. This will be followed by a debate between members of Vox Populi and the University Party, campus political parties. Two faculty members will be present to analyze the election results. Political Emphasis Week is sponsored by the Political Activities Council, composed of representatives of the Young Democrats, Young Republicans, Student Union Activities, KU-Y, Vox and UP. Its purpose is to stimulate interest in politics and public affairs. The Democratic party candidates expected to attend the political coffee Wednesday are gubernatorial candidate Dale Saffels; Joseph Henkle, candidate for lieutenant governor; Andy Gray, candidate for secretary of state; Adolphus Kennedy, candidate for state treasurer; Jules Doty, candidate for attorney general; Howard Woodworth, candidate for superintendent of public instruction; Ken Smith and Paul Alyward, candidates for U.S. Senators and J. Floyd Breeding, Harry Kehoe, Bill Sparks, Lawrence Wetzel and Wade Myers, candidates for Congress. A 1962 KU architecture graduate will play guest lead on the October 23 Laramie television show. Episcopal Evening Prayer, 9:30 p.m. Danforth Chapel. James P. McMullan, Long Beach, New York, will also star in a western series to be produced in 1963. KU Grad to Have TV Role A London born scientist who carried out his experiments in a mud but in Africa, will lecture this Thursday. Mud Hut Scientist To Lecture Here In 1959 Price-Williams spent six months in central Nigeria with the Tiv Tribe. The research was sponsored by the Ford Foundation and the London School of Economics. Young GOP To Campaign The caravan will start at 7 a.m. Saturday from the Kansas Union, picking up college students as it moves along. One bus will go through Topeka and Manhattan and another will go through Emporia and Wichita. The buses will stop in each town for students to campaign. The buses will meet in Hutchinson for lunch, then go on to Salina, where students will have dinner and meet Congressman Bob Dole. After dinner, Dole will go with the caravan to Lincoln and Wilson, returning to Salina for the night. The trip is open to Young Republicans and their dates.
