Page 12 University Daily Kansan Thursday, Oct. 18, 1962 Students Discuss HRC Methods Opinion polling on discriminatory practices and possible anti-discrimination action last night was discussed by 16 students at a meeting of the All Student Council Human Rights Committee. Several representatives from the Civil Rights Council (CRC) were present to make suggestions to the committee. The consensus was that a scientific polling was the most effective way for determining student opinion. It was suggested that a representative sample of the student body be contacted personally. Carl S. Long, Mission junior, said, "The ASC could prohibit from all Council sessions and activities houses which discriminate." Another student suggested pressure could be exerted by stopping Lawrence advertising in the Daily Kansan and the JAYHAWKER. Ivory Nelson, Lawrence graduate student, said the HRC could ask that students not patronize establishments which discriminate. FRANK THOMPSON, HRC chairman and Iola junior, asked for student opinion on religious discrimination. Don Warner, CRC president, and Topeka senior, urged that the Committee include polling on religious discrimination in its student poll. Thompson said several fraternities require their members to hold a certain faith before they can be pledged. Warner suggested the reasoning behind this policy was that the majority of fraternities follow a Christian ritual. However, he added the non-Christian rushee should be "informed and welcomed to join if he so desires." Homecoming Deadline Oct. 23 Deadline for houses to submit homecoming decoration plans has been extended to Oct. 23., R. P. Cuzzort, professor of sociology, and chairman of the decorations committee, said today. (Continued from page 1) molecular biology at Cambridge University, England.
