'The Egg' Features 3 Eternal Triangles
A triple romantic triangle is woven into the plot of "The Egg" which opens at 8:30 tonight in Swarthout auditorium.
Swarthmore author. "The Egg," a University Experimental Theatre production, is directed by F. C. Strickland, visiting professor in the speech and drama department.
MAGIS THINK HE can break into the system through love. So he has affairs with an aging spinster played by Caroline Kreiesel, instructor of speech and drama, and then a married woman, also portrayed by Miss Kreiesel.
Terry Kowac, Wichita junior, portrays Emile Magis, a lower-middle class Parisienne who stumbles in and out of romance trying to find his place in "the system."
Magis falls in love with the youngest of the latter's three daughters. But he marries the oldest because French society dictates that the oldest should marry first.
A third romantic twist enters the story when his wife's old beau reappears.

MAGIS RAMBLES through life looking for the key to the system, trying to break the egg. The egg symbolizes the shell which separates the "in-group" from the rest of the world.
All Magis wants is to get in, to be included. When he becomes part of the society he envies, he is disillusioned to find that life is not what it seems.
According to Felicien Marceau, the author, the world lives by a set of ethics to which it pays only lip service.
THIS THEME is exemplified when Magis wife's old beau returns from Indo-China to complete the third romantic triangle.
The wife, Nan Scott, Toledo, Ohio,
graduate student, proceeds to have
an affair with her old boyfriend,
Kenneth Hill, Olathe junior.
The play takes the form of an autobiography with Magis narrating the events of his life.
- Although popular in Europe, it is almost unknown in the United States.
- The production qualifies as an experiment on three counts.
- It is written in the form of an animated biography, rather than a play.
- The 16 settings required in the original production have been replaced with a few chairs and a table on a lecture platform.
