2 Wednesdav. July 22. 1992 UNIVERSITY DAILY KANSAN THE WEEK IN BRIEF A SUMMARY OF THE WEEK'S NEWS SATURDAY/SUNDAY BRIEFS LOS ANGELES — Chevron Corp. has pleaded guilty to federal pollution violations for dumping oil, grease and other waste into the ocean and agreed to pay an $8-million fine. "We've learned a lot from it, but it certainly was a very expensive lesson," said Raymond Galvin, Chevron president, after entering the guilty plea Monday. The $8-million fine is the third-largest in the United States for an environmental crime. The largest was $125 million, paid by Exxon in a criminal fine and restitution for the 1989 Alaskan oil tanker spill.
