But the addition of a fourth full-time pharmacist Monday at Watkins Memorial Health Center will cut down on the time that students have to wait to have their prescriptions filled at the hospital, which, in turn, will help chief pharmacist at Watkins. "Wegreatly appreciate the patience that our patients have given us," Baughman said. "We know that they have schedules and obligations of their own. Sometimes, the waiting period has been beyond our control." Ron Ragan, a 1984 KU graduate, is the new pharmacist. Watkins plans to expand the pharmacy hours by Fall 1992 to include evening hours and more weekend hours, he said. baughman said the busiest time for the pharmacy was between 3 and 5:30 p.m. "The fact that we have one more pharmacist enables us to keep up with the morning pressure more than we had previously been able to, and that reduces the wait in the afternoon." Bauhman said. The pharmacy fills about 62,000 prescriptions a year. During busy periods, pharmacists process as many as 350 prescriptions a day. Baughman said the waiting time for prescriptions this semester ranged from five minutes to an hour and a half. With another pharmacist, he said, he hoped the waiting time would be cut to about 20 minutes. Charles Yockey, chief of staff at Watkins, said the decision to hire another pharmacist was made in 1991 in response to students' frustration with lengthwaits. "In all of our surveys, consistently the highest area of dissatisfaction is the wait at the pharmacy for prescriptions to be filled," Vockey said.
