Bypass surgery varies by race
CHICAGO — Older African Americans get heart-bypass operations only about one fourth as often as older whites — even with Medicare coverage — and medical reasons fail to explain the difference, according to a medical study published March 11.

For example, a heart condition called hypertensive cardiomyopathy could not be fixed with bypass surgery. The condition results from fibrous scar tissue, which is much more common among African Americans than whites.
Cohn dismissed the possibility of racial prejudice, saying cardiac surgeons are very concerned about getting adequate care to all patients.

Failure to do so will result in a hold being placed on your Permit to Enroll for Summer or Fall 1992. You will be unable to enroll until the hold is removed.
The Mandatory Immunization is the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) received after 12 months of age. There is no charge for a required immunization. Immunization Department hours are: Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Walk-ins are accepted.
