Kempf said that his team was well-prepared for the conference finals and that it was aiming for second place. "I think we look real good going into the finals," he said. "Their attitudes are good, and I'm pleased with their preparation." Preliminaries begin this morning in the 200 freestyle relay, the 500 freestyle, the 200 individual medley, the 50 freestyle, the one-meter diving and the 400 medley relay. Finals in these events will be tonight. Kempf said the Jayhawks would not be surprised to find themselves behind after the first day of competition. "The first day is not our strong suit," he said. "When you hit it 40 feet from the hole and have to putt over a ridge ... you won't make too many of those," he said. "There's humps and bumps on a lot of the greens."
