KU Alumni Association helps graduates connect

After making it through college, most KU seniors will be relieved to walk down the Campanile hill and leave papers, finals and group projects behind.
But friends and the University are the last two things these graduates want to lose touch with. That is why joining the University of Kansas Alumni Association appeals to so many seniors.
Rachelle Luther, an education senior, said that she would join the association because, "I'll move out of state I want to keep up with what is on on at KU."
Helping keep that link is what the association does. Jeff Johnson, the director of external affairs and membership development for the Alumni Association, said that there are 70 alumni chapters in the United States to keep KU graduates in touch with their old campus.
Johnson said to help keep alumni abreast of activities, the association offers services such as the KU Alumni magazine and the Find a Friend service to inform graduates.
The magazine publishes information like who is married and what jobs they have. Johnson also said the magazine offers stu-

The Find a Friend service offers a way for alumni to get addresses of their fellow graduates they haven't heard from in a long time. Johnson said.
Richard Blowey, a KU alumnus, said that the Alumni Association offers social and informative services. He said he would recommend joining because, "It keeps you in touch after you graduate."
Johnson said that first time graduates at any level of degree receive a free six month membership. After six months, graduates have the option of joining for an annual fee of $25 for the first three years. The membership fee increases to $35 for the fourth year. Johnson said.

Although the association doesn't offer a job-finding service, it does offer services that support graduates. For example, a credit card and temporary health insurance that give graduates a hand in the job search, Johnson said.
The health insurance offers protection to graduates who lose their parents' insurance after graduation. Johnson said that the protection lasts for 30 or 60 days.
With all of the services and benefits the Alumni Association offers, Clay Canfield, a KU senior, says he plans to join even though he doesn't know a lot about it.
Canfield said he is joining, "Because my dad is a graduate from here and he is a member."
