A University of Kansas engineering senior from Brazil is one of 50 students nationally to receive a $7,000 fellowship from Phi Kappa Phi, an exclusive national honor society.
Chi-Chao Chang became eligible to compete for the national fellowship in February when he was named recipient of the KU chapter's $1,000 James Blackiston Fellowship.
Chang will receive a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering in the May 16 commencement ceremony at KU. He plans to use his fellowships to pursue a doctoral degree in computer science at Cornell University. He will work as a graduate teaching assistant at Cornell, and he also has received a fellowship for tuition offered by Cornell.

A student's car stereo, compact disc player, amplifier and other stereo equipment, valued together at $1,525, were taken Thursday from a vehicle in the 1400 block of Ohio Street, Lawrence police reported. Damage to a window and the dashboard was estimated at $200.

A student's mountain bike valued at $550 was taken Thursday or Friday from a residence in the 900 block of Arkansas Street, Lawrence police reported.
A student's 10-speed bicycle valued at $400 was taken Friday from the 1200 block of Tennessee Street, Lawrence police reported.
The rear windows of two students' cars in the 2400 block of W. 25th Street were damaged Saturday, Lawrence police reported. Damage to the two cars was estimated at $300.
