Kansan staff report A University of Kansas engineering senior from Brazil is one of 50 students nationally to receive a $7,000 fellowship from Phi Kappa Phi, an exclusive national honor society. Chi-Chao Chang became eligible to compete for the national fellowship in February when he was named recipient of the KU chapter's $1,000 James Blackiston Fellowship. Chang will receive a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering in the May 16 commencement ceremony at KU. He plans to use his fellowships to pursue a doctoral degree in computer science at Cornell University. He will work as a graduate teaching assistant at Cornell, and he also has received a fellowship for tuition offered by Cornell. Damage to a window and the dashboard was estimated at $200. A meat slicer and keg of beer with the tap, valued together at $750. were taken Wednesday from a van belonging to Bum Steer Barbecue, 2554 Iowa St., in the 700 block of W. 23rd Street, Lawrence police reported. A student's mountain bike valued at $550 was taken Thursday or Friday from a residence in the 900 block of Arkansas Street, Lawrence police reported. A student's 10-speed bicycle valued at $400 was taken Friday from the 1200 block of Tennessee Street, Lawrence police reported.
