Missouri upsets Kansas State The Associated Press COLUMBIA, Mo. — Kansas State's first appearance in the Top 25 since 1988 likely will be a cameo. Melvin Booker scored 19 points and Reggie Smith had a career high of 13 as Missouri beat the 23rd-ranked Wildcats 67-51 last night. After entering the Top 25 yesterday, K-State fell to 14-4 overall and 4-2 in the Big Eight Conference. K-State missed its first nine shots, fell behind 13 points in the first half and never recovered. Missouri, 15-6, 4-2, made seven of its first eight shots in the second half, led by as much as 19 points and held K-State to a season-low. K-State was picked to finish seventh in the Big Eight this year and had a Women chance to tie Kansas for the league lead. The Wildcats won their first two Big Eight road games and entered with a three-game winning streak on the road overall. KState's Vincent Jackson also had 19 points, all but three in the first half. Askia Jones added 12. But K-State did not score against Missouri's aggressive man-to-man defense until Aaron Collier made a follow shot with 12:54 left. They also were 2-for-19 at one point. All five Missouri starters scored in double figures. Lamont Frazier scored 12 points; Jevon Crudup, 11 and Jeff Warren, 10. In the first half, K-State was 9-for-28 and 1-for-6 from three-point range. shots but went 13 for 19 the rest of the half. The Tigers had a double-digit lead most of the first half. K-State hit three straight three-pointers midway through the second half and cut the gap to eight points on Jackson's three-pointer with 11:28 to go. Booker responded by hitting a pull up jumper to restore the lead to 10 points. Missouri survived its own horrendous stretch late in the game, missing the front end of a bonus free throw situation three straight times and committing a turnover — all in 1:59. But during that time K-State missed five straight shots and never got any closer than nine points. K-State only made one of its last 11 shots.
