"Last year we won the regular season, but finished second in the tournament." Pitching will be more important than ever before this season, because the format for the Big Eight title changed during the off-season. This year there will not be a Big Eight tournament, but each team will play two double-headers against each other, all in the final two months of the season. The team with the best conference record will win the title. Kansas will face a big challenge during spring break when the team travels to California to play in a tournament. Mar 24-28. The Jayhawks begin their season at the Texas A&M invitational on March 5. The Jayhawks' competition there will include California State-Fuller-on and California State-Northridge, wo-top 15 teams. Haack said that for now, he would not pressure his team to do things too last. "Starting slow, and taking it slow, makes them hungry for the season," Haack said.
