Embray said Mitchener had a 4.0 grade point average in five semesters at KU. *
"Erin was very down to earth," said Erin Embrey, a Prairie Village junior and Mitchener's roommate last year. "She was very friendly, very caring, and she was always willing to help people out."
The KU junior was born in University City, Mo., a St. Louis suburb. She lived in the area until 1990, when she moved to Lawrence.

Erin Christine Mitchener, 21, died Dec. 27, one day after a drunken driver struck her car near St. Louis.
