Too much praise cannot be accorded Professor Penny for securing talent of such excellence as has appeared before Lawrence audiences the past week. On Monday evening last, the music-loving circle were treated to one of the prettiest concerts of the season, the no less artist Miss Ellen Beach Yaw, the widest ranged singer in the world, taking the leading part, supported by Max Dick, violinist, and Miss Georgiella Lay, pianist. Miss Yaw was, of course, the star of the evening, completely captivating her audience by her sweet tones in the middle register, and many who want as a matter of curiosity were quite agreeably surprised at her execution in the middle notes. Max Dick, while neither a Romenyi or a Musin, plays with excellent precision and expression and was called back with each number. Miss Lay gave excellent support as an accompanist. A goodly audience greeted the trio, Music Hall being filled to overflowing. Again we say the musical public are under obligations to Professor Penny for his efforts in securing such talent. Some weeks ago, a letter addressed to the Woman's League of Kansas University was received from the Woman's League of Michigan University. This letter contained a proposition that our society should join in a correspondence league and send out a circular letter each year, to the following institutions where women are educated: Vassar, Wesleyan, Mass. Institute of Technology, Boston University, Cornell, Wellesley, Northwestern, and Michigan. These letters are intended "to serve as a record of the social life of these institutions" and what is desired is a picture of the life the college women lead, outside of study hours. Answers are requested to a number of questions, and most of them have been responded to in the different letters which have been received from these institutions, in a manner which is frank, friendly, and full of interest. The letters will be read on Friday afternoon, May 18th, at 5 o'clock, in room 15, and a full attendance of the members of the Woman's League and of all young women of different departments of the University is desired.
