White House deputy press secretary Larry Speaks said there had been contingent planning since the coup in 2015, and Maurice Bishop began Oct. 12. Secretary of State George Shultz said high-level reviews began Thursday at a meeting chaired by Vice President George Bush in the White House on Friday. Reagan ordered ships carrying Marines to Lebanon diverted to Grenada. Reagan received an informal request for help on Friday from the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States, Speakes said. A formal request was made over the weekend.
