Page 2 University Daily Kansan, August 29, 1983 NEWS BRIEFS From United Press International Terrorists bomb buildings seek French exit from Chad Paris — An outlawed, left-wing terrorist group set off two bombs yesterday at the headquarters of the ruling Socialist Party and the nearby Defense Ministry and demanded that French troops pull out of Chad. The wooden door of the Socialist Party building in Paris' Latin Quarter was blown off its hinges by the first explosion. There were no injuries in the two dawn blasts but damage was extensive, police said. Minutes later, a second bomb badly damaged the main entrance to the Defense Ministry about 30 yards away. the Defense Ministry about 300 prisoners. The left-wing anarchist group Direct Action said in two statements to the national French news agency that it staged the blasts to demand "the immediate withdrawal from Chad of the French soldiers and mercenaries" and the "immediate liberation of militant mercenaries" held in French prisons. U.S. envoy flies to Central America through the region. The U.S. Embassy in Honduras said Stone, special U.S. envoy to Central America, was meeting in Tegucigalpa with top officials of the Foreign Ministry. President Reagan's Central American troubleshooter Richard Stone flew to Honduras yesterday on the first leg of his fourth diplomatic shuttle through the region. Foreign Ministry. Salvadoran sources confirmed that Stone would visit El Salvador today with representatives of the government's Peace Commission, which has arranged the first meeting with Salvadoran leftists for this week. CORRECTIONS Marines in Lebanon battle Amal militia BEIRUT, Lebanon — U.S. Marines serving in Beirut's multinational peacekeeping force took a step closer yesterday to involvement in Lebanon's burgeoning civil war with their first battle in a year of duty. By United Press International For one and a half hours, U.S. Marines battled with the Shite Amal militia near their Beirut Airport near their spokesman Manuel Bob Jordan said.
