Wilson asks for investigation into locked doors at GSP Hall
KU officials are awaiting reply from the state fire marshal in Topeka after asking for a special inspection of a pair of glass double doors in a residence
J. J. Wilson, director of housing, made the request after receiving a complaint from the parent of a Gertrude Sellars Pearl Hall resident that two doors near the southeast wall on the main floor pose a fire hazard.
Julie Gross, GSP hall director, said the doors were about 10 feet from a clearly marked fire exit. She also said that to be safe, she had never been in trouble with the doors.
Wilson said the doors, which were locked for security reasons, had never been singled out as a problem in past inspections.
Fred McElhene, director of residential programs, said the actual time of the inspection would depend on the fire department's schedule, and it would be in the next several days.
The doors at GSP were last inspected in July.
