The campus sparkles with its myriad decorations and general atmosphere of good cheer. To 17 tired and foot-sore employees of the Bursar's office, however, it's a different story. Christmas to them means long hours of frenzied activity and confusion. They are soon to be invaded by thousands of happy check-writing students. Volume Is Heavy On days immediately prior to vacations the two windows at the business office in Frank Strong Hall are kept busy all day and work inside the office goes on long into the night. Activity is also heavy after week ends indicating that most students on Mt. Oread don't neglect their social life. On the whole most of the checks cashed are good. A few, however, crop up from time to time with the elasticity of grandma's garter. In comparison to the volume of checks cashed, though, the percentage of bad checks is very low. The business office very rarely is forced to take punitive action. If the student has any financial obligation to the University, his transcript is held in the Registrar's office pending payment of the debt. In Four Parts The Bursar's office is divided into four sections. These are the payroll office, the purchasing office, research grants, and the students division. The purchasing office rules on all purchasing requests submitted by each department of the University. These requests are then submitted to the Department of Administration in Topeka for action. Research grants division channels all state and federal aid toward research done in such fields as cancer and atomic energy. The student division provides financial and accounting services to all campus organizations, including campus publications. The payroll office handles the paychecks of some 3100 students, faculty, and civil service employees. Kappa Phi To Hold Christmas Program Kappa Phi, Methodist organization for women, will hold its Christmas program at 7:00 today at the Methodist Student Center. The topic of the program is "Christmas Customs in Different Countries." The program will display and interpret Christmas customs of other lands, and how they are influenced by the people, government, form of worship, and means of livelihood. A narrator will explain the customs, and a song originating in each country will be sung. Advanced Play Group Sponsors Yule Party Students and faculty of the speech and drama department will have a Christmas party at 8 p.m. Sunday on the stage of Fraser Theater. The class in advanced play production is sponsoring the party in which slides of previous plays will be shown and scenes from some will be enacted.
