Page 6 University Daily Kansan Thursday. Dec. 15, 1955. Big Seven Dominates Non-Conference Play Colorado, Iowa State and Kansas continue to pace the Big Seven's attack on non-conference opposition. Each has posted three victories against no losses. Overall, Big Seven schools have won 15 games and lost nine. Colorado's record is the most impressive, with the Buffaloes, who were supposed to be a pushover this year because of losing four starters, beating Oregon State, 63 to 53, Oregon, 68 to 49, and Iowa, 60 to 57. Colorado beat the Oregon clubs on the west coast and upset high-ranking Iowa at Boulder. Kansas Impressive Two of Kansas' three victories were impressive, both being over Big Ten Conference teams. The Jayhawkers bumped Northwestern, 91 to 70, in the season's opener and defeated Wisconsin 74 to 66 last Saturday. Kansas won a ragged game from Wichita, 56 to 53. Iowa State's perfect record has been at the expense of lesser competition than that of other Big Seven schools. State trounced North Dakota State, 86 to 60, Texas Tech, 72 to 52, and Tulsa 62 to 50. Texas Tech has been the chief target of Big Seven teams, having been beaten also by Nebraska, Missouri and Kansas State. Missouri has won three games and dropped one, but one of the victories was over Illinois, supposedly one of the nation's better teams, 74 to 73. The Tigers fell to Furdue, 62 to 53, and beat South Dakota, 71 to 46, and Texas Tech, 92 to 60. K-State Has 1-2 Record **K-State** in Kansas landed 1-2 for the season. The Wildcats beat Texas Tech, 89 to 70, and lost to Indiana, 96 to 72, and Drake, 70 to 64. Oklahoma has played the toughest schedule so far of conference teams, and it shows. The Sooners lost to Rice, 79 to 47, Vanderbilt, 78 to 69, and Ohio State, 89 to 68. They beat Baylor, 65 to 55, for their only victory. Nebraska also has a 1-3 record for season's activity. Its only victory was over Texas Tech, 69 to 63. Iowa beat the Cornhuskers, 60 to 51, as did Michigan, 77 to 71. Wichita handed Nebraska its only bad defeat, 71 to 46. Tonight Kansas State plays Loyola of Los Angeles and Oklahoma meets Arkansas. By HARRY ELLIOTT (Daily Kansas, Sports Editor) We see where Burd Wilkinson is moaning again that he is going to be beaten by his opponent's team. Doesn't he realize that people quit listening to his wailing a long time ago—after seeing how often his predictions of failure fell flat and the Sooners' score ran riot? He evidently seems to think that when he finally does lose a game, then he will be able to say, "I told you so." It's obvious that his grim feelings aren't carried over to his team's playing. They don't seem to care what he thinks—they win anyway. Maryland Coach Jim Tatum, preparing to take his team against Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl Jan. 2 was asked what will happen when the "immovable object" of his team's line makes contact with an "irresistible force"—meaning Oklahoma He said, "I don't know. Oklahoma never ran against a line as good as ours but we never saw any offense as good as theirs." It is this which will make the game a good one. Maryland has the nation's top defensive team—the held UCLA to a minus 21 yards rushing—and Oklahoma has the top offensive team of the country. Since theory and fact both say that if an irresistible force could exist an immovable object can't be possible and vice versa, the Jan. 2 game should be the one to watch to see which of the two is the one that will prove the other impossible. In the 1951 Big Seven pre-season tournament, Iowa State and Stanford scored 205 points in one game, Stanford winning 103 to 102. Faced with rugged competition Jan. 2, the bowl-bound teams have been undergoing stiff practices in preparation for the contests. In Atlanta, Georgia Tech hopes were dimmed as center and captain Jimmy Morris was sidelined by a virus attack and quarterback Toppy Vann went out with a sprained thumb. In Los Angeles, UCLA ran through a tough 90-minute drill in preparation for their clash with Michigan State in the Rose Bowl. With the exception of sub tailback Ronnie Knox, out with a broken ankle, the Bruins are in top physical condition. Texas Christian went through its first scrimmage in over two months as it prepared for its Cotton Bowl date with Mississippi. All-American halfback Jim Swink suffered a slight ankle injury, but the injury was not believed serious enough to force Swink to miss any practice.
