Page 4 University Daily Kansan Wednesday, Dec. 14, 1955 KU Benefactors Noted KU benefactors, Mr. and Mrs.J. R.Pearson, have made possible two scholarship halls and two women's dormitories which house nearly 600 students. The amount given by the couple exceeds $500,000, according to an article, "The J. R. Pearson Story," in the November issue of the KU Alumni Magazine, written by Fred Ellsworth, secretary of the KU Alumni Association. The two scholarship halls, Sellards and Pearson, were completed in 1952. Sellards Hall houses 54 women and Pearson Hall 52 men. Grace Pearson Hall, named for the Pearson's daughter, was completed in 1955 and houses 48 women. Gertrude Sellars Pearson, which was finished this fall, will house 443 women. Mr. Pearson, who died Aug. 15, was born near Wakefield. His endeavors have included land sale, oil field exploitation, and the insurance business. The cost of the four halls, made possible by the Pearson's, has been supplemented by money from the Watkins fund and bond issues. The Pearson's also spent a great deal of time in planning the four dormitories. Mr. Pearson visited a number of college and university campuses $13,000 Grant Given 5th Time To Dr. Roofe A U. S. Public Health Service grant of $13,414 will enable Dr. Paul G. Roofe, professor and chairman of the University anatomy department, to continue fundamental research on development and chemistry of the central nervous system. The National Advisory Neurological Diseases and Blindness Council of the USPHS recommended sponsorship of the work for the fifth year. throughout the United States to study dormitory planning and financing. Prof. L. R. Lind, chairman of the department of Latin and Greek, will speak to the History Club at a meeting at 7 p.m. today in the Fine Room of the Student Union. Prof. Lind will give an illustrated slide lecture on "Roman Inscriptions in the Wilcox Museum." History Club To Meet Today Food For Thought PROVIDENCE, R.I. - (U.P.)—Defendants who appear before District Judge Luigi DePasquale in connection with highway accidents are handed a copy of a newspaper editorial on the subject. The judge had 10,000 copies of the Providence Journal-Bulletin editorial printed at his own expense because he thinks it is "food for thought." Electrical Women's Workshop Set Again A second Electrical Women's round-table workshop at the University is being planned by the Greater Kansas City area chapter of Electrical Women. It will be held Feb. 17 and 18. Workshop chairman is Julia Springer of the Kansas Power and Light Co., Lawrence. She is assisted by chapter officers Mrs. Ethel Russell of Midwest Research Institute, Rose Brister of Monsanto Chemical Co., and Helen Mundell of Kansas City Power and Light Co., all of Kansas City, Mo.
