Pipes
Here's an idea for dad, grandfather, uncle, or boyfriend—a new pipe. Every pipe smoker enjoys a change, but be sure to buy the right size and style of pipe for your man. Don't select an itty-bitty pipe for a big man, or a large, overpowering pipe for a streamline guy. Tall, thin men prefer straight pipes, and heavier, stocky men go for curved stems.
Young men take to novelty designs, and elderly men like pipes with generous bowls for a leisurely smoke that lasts. For formal dress, pipes have been designed that won't bulge in the pocket. Thin and flat in black and white, these pipes look right with tuxedos. The price range from $1* to $25.
Phonograph Records
Another suggestion for the man in your life—records. If he is a record collector, he will be pleased to receive a new album of classical, popular, jazz, or even hillybilt music—whichever suits his particular taste. Two albums on LP which may appeal to the stronger sex (?) have recently been released. In the series "I Can Hear It Now," the latest recording is devoted to Sir Winston Churchill and includes some of the famous addresses he has made since 1909.
"The Greatest Moment in Sports" brings backs actual sounds and voices of thrilling, humorous, and sad events which have occurred on the playing fields of the world. Depending on the speed of the record—78, 45, or LP—albums are priced from $3.98 to $6.98.
For Gifts, Parties-
for anyone who enjoys making candy for holiday gifts and parties, these recipes are recommended.
The first is homemade fudge made with marshmallow cream and morsels of semi-sweet chocolate. It's easy to make, creamy, and richly flavored.
Candy Suggested For Holiday Cooking
Marshmallow Cream Fudge
1 7 oz. jar marshmallow cream
1 6 oz. can evaporated milk
1 7 oz. jar marshmallow cream
cup butter
1 $ _{2}^{1} $ cups sugar
1/4 cups sug
1/4 tsp. salt
2 6 oz. packages semi-sweet
chocolate pieces
1 tsp. vanilla
1 cup chopped nuts (if desired)
Stir marshmallow cream, evaporated milk, butter, sugar, and salt together in a saucepan; stirring constantly, bring to a full boil, continue to stir and boil 5 minutes over moderate heat. Remove from stove. Stir in chocolate, vanilla, and nuts (if used) until chocolate is melted. Pour into greased pan (8 by 8 by 2 inches), chill until firm. Makes about $ \frac{2}{4} $ pounds.
Along with the fudge, you might also like to make chocolate nuggets. They have a layer of caramel made from candy and an upper layer of pecans and chocolate.

1 cup pecans, coarsely chopped
1 6 oz. package semi-sweet
chocolate pieces
3 tbls. light corn syrup
1 tbls. water
Butter cookie sheet well; soft confectioners' sugar over buttered sheet. Put caramels, butter, and 1 tbls. water in top of double boiler; allow to stand over boiling water until melted. Add pecans; keep warm over hot water. In another double boiler put chocolate, corn syrup, and 1 tbls. caramel mixture by teaspoonfuls; add 1 tbls. water.

Allow to stand over hot water until melted; remove from heat. Of prepared cookie sheet, drop caramel mixture by teaspoonfuls; drop chocolate mixture by half teaspoonfuls on top of caramel mixture. Chill until firm. Makes about 3 $\frac{1}{2}$ dozen nuggets.
