Page 12 Textiles Now On Display Coptic textiles of Egypt are now on display in the "Weaving Art of the Egyptian Christians" exhibit at the Museum of Art. The display, taken from the Thayer Collection of the museum, was planned by Miss Inge Newfield, new curator of textiles. Most of the fabrics are third to eighth century A. D. ornaments from garments found in burial places in Egypt during the late 1800's. Figure subjects, animals, birds, floral, and geometric designs are the chief decorative motifs. They are derived from Hellenistic, Oriental, and early Christian sources. The textiles will be on display through December. Spanish Clubs To Give Yule Show El Atenco and La Tertulia, Spanish clubs, will have their combined annual Christmas meeting at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14 in Strong Hall auditorium. Carol singing, a play and a speech will feature the program. "Auto de las Grandes Lluvas," written in 1498 by Juan del Encina, will be presented. It is a religious one-act play, and shows the shepherds in the field, complaining of the heavy rains that have fallen during more than two months, as an angel appears to them, announces the birth of Christ, and the shepherds go to the site of the Nativity. Cast will be; Betty Lou Douglas, Dodge City sophomore; Marcel G. Paulding, Lawrence junior; Herbert E. Prusack, Tulsa, Okla, sophomore; Marimea Olson, Topeka sophomore; Mary J. Dougherty, Dodge City senior; Kathryn A. Proctor, Augusta sophomore. Dr. Diego Angulo Iniquez, a leading authority on Spanish art from Madrid will speak on "The Nativity," in Spanish.
