Nickerson, associate professor of music education, has been granted a sabbatical leave for the 1953-54 school year, the chancellor's office has announced. Dr. Nickerson will spend the year in the study of psychology and acoustics, a field in which he is an authority. He will work half-time as a research associate under a Bureau of Ships contract with the University of Southern California. This work will be done in the human factors division of the Navy Electronics laboratory at San Diego, Calif. "The Work Supervisor As a Leader" will be discussed by Charles K. Warriner, instructor in sociology, 3:45 p.m. Sunday on KLWN during the weekly Sociology on the Air broadcast. The remainder of the time Dr. Nickerson will pursue his own research in acoustics and hearings. The facilities of the Navy Electronics laboratory will be available for this special work. Dr. Warriner, a graduate of Hillsdale college, Michigan, received his master's and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Chicago. Before joining the faculty in 1948, he did industrial and business relations research in Illinois and Indiana. He also headed a team of researchers from the University of Chicago which conducted an intensive study of the city of Rockford, Ill.
