Radio Work Progressing The building and remodeling program for KFKU and KANU University Radio stations is moving along rapidly. Construction has begun on the transmitter house for the AM transmitter for KFKU and the FM transmitter for KANU. The building is planned so that by adding to the structure, there will be room for the television transmitter. R. Edwin Browne, director of radio, said the building was expected to be ready for use by June 1. He said the University expects to start broadcasting on FM by July 10 The remodeling program at the station is expected to be completed by the first week in April. All the glass has been installed between the studios and the control rooms. No 'Cents In Waiting-Let Kansan Classifieds Save You Money. Air conditioning engineers worked all last week and installed most of the outlets for air conditioning in these rooms. The word "radio" in seven inch-high and one and one-inch half thick wood letters will be installed in the glass cubicle at the main entrance to the station. Letters spelling out KFKU and KANU also will be cut out and placed on either side of the larger sign. Mr. Browne said the radio building is stuck behind much larger and more imposing structures and that therefore the purpose of the letters is to help persons find the station. Director Studies College TV Station R. Edwin Browne, director of KFKU, University radio station, visited Graceland college, Lamoni, Iowa, and Iowa State college, Ames, last week. He checked on students who plan to transfer here from Graceland and visited the television station operated by Iowa State. At Graceland, Mr. Browne was representing KU at the Graceland college transfer day in which the students interview representatives of the universities and colleges to which they might transfer. Mr. Browne visited the only television station in the country operated by an educational institution at Iowa State. Next Lab Play April 2 He said KU expects to operate an educational television station and the trip was for the purpose of studying techniques used that might be adopted for use here. The next lab theater presentation, Wednesday, April 2, will feature 'Kantuck,' a play written by Robert Londerholm, college junior.
