By JOHN HERRINGTON Kansan Sports Editor Far be it from us to ever ask favors of our readers. But in this case, we're going to make an exception and invade the privacy of our reading public—if there is such a thing—and ask them to do their best to attend tonight's big "welcome-home-champs" rally at 9:30. If you were part of the 200-car parade that covered nearly every square inch of Lawrence last night after the Jayhawks' impressive NCAA championship win, you know what we mean when we say, "you're going to miss something big if you're not there." In our opinions, this is the biggest thing that has ever happened in KU sports history. Are we carrying it to extremes? We don't think so. For the first time in the history of Kansas University basketball, the Jayhawkers have won the national title. For the first time in the history of Big Seven basketball a member team has copied the NCAA bunting. Dr. Forrest C. "Phog" Allen has finally been awarded with the one trophy he has wanted more than any other. A member of the Jayhawker team—Clyde Lovellette—has broken every record on the NCAA books. Another Jayhawker—Bob Kenney—set a national collegiate free-throwing record. Kansas' defensive aces — Dean Kelley, John Keller, Charlie Hoag—staged some of the greatest "stop-em" tactics ever seen in the Nation. Bill Lienhard and Bill Hougland developed some fine basket eyes. Lienhard, with his "gooseneck" shot really found himself last night, hitting consistently from the outside when St. John's defensive men concentrated on Lovellette. Hougland and Kenney also patrolled the outer area for the Jayhawks with some convincing shooting. And then filling in capably for YOUR EYES should be examined today. Call for appointment. CHICAGO COLLEGE OF OPTOMETRY 1845-H Larrabee Street Chicago 14, Illinois Sidebars and Tourney Topics: At last Phog Allen found another team wearing red shoes. The St. John's Redmens came onto the court with red shoes and white shoestrings combination. Sidebars and Tourney Titles: The battle between Bob Zwoluk of St. John's and Kansas' Clyde Lovellette developed to some extent, There was never any danger that the Redman center would catch Lovellette after the transplanted Hoosier got started. The dual ended abruptly in the fourth quarter when Zawoluk went out on fouls with 20 points. Seattle was pretty cool to the competing teams going into the NCAA tourney. They had to be shown. By last night, they had been shown. When Lovellette left the court with 37 seconds left in the game and 33 points to his credit, the Seattle fans gave him a standing ovation. Thursday, March 27. 1952 Kansas Relays Will Not Have Parade For Annual Games For the first time in 26 years the Kansas Relays will be held without a parade. Last years' Relays saw only one record broken. Don Cooper, Nebraska university, set a new Kansas Relays record in the pole vault with a leap of 15 feet $ \frac{1}{2} $ inches. Because the annual games are scheduled during the Easter vacation, not enough students will be on hand to make the annual parade practical. The relays, which are scheduled every year for the third week-end in April, are Friday and Saturday, April 18 and 19 this year. The Kansas Relays committee for this year consists of Jerry Armstrong, engineering senior, chairman; Jerry Brownlee, Walter Cole, and Bob Mehl, college juniors; James However, the scheduling of the event during the Easter vacation is "little" effect on team attendance," according to track coach Bill Easton. Tickets for the Olympic playoffs in Kansas City, Mo., Saturday night, will not be sold by the athletic department's business office, according to Marvin Small, Jayhawk club secretary. Tickets will be sold through the business office of the Municipal auditorium in Kansas City. Thirty-seven colleges and universities have answered invitations to the Relays and will participate. Last year 16 universities, 31 colleges and 11 junior colleges took part in the events. Giants Interested In Pirate Fielder Phoenix, Ariz. — (U.P.) — Branch Rickey, baseball's salesman de luxe, unpacked his sample case in the camp of the New York Giants today and made ready to listen to bids on outfielder George (Cat) Metkovich. Metkovich and all of Rickey's other wares will be on display today in the exhibition game between the Giants and his Pittsburgh Pirates. But Giant manager Leo Durocher has indicated greatest interest in the 30-year-old Metkovich, a southpaw swinger who hit 293 in 120 games for the last-place Pirates last year. Rickey denied Durocher has yet made an offer for Metkovich. This Semester Every Student Could Lose His SHIRT! All joking aside, the HOME LAUNDRY MARKING PEN can void all this.
