They told townpeople that bras-hats at the nearby air base assigned junior officers to the policing detail recently because they had been lax in carrying out an order to keep the ground free of trash.
The officers who failed to make sure that enlisted men did the job, were required to trim grass, sweep up debris and pick up cigarette butts with their own bare hands, according to reports. Enlisted men watched the clean-up operation, it was reported, with poorly concealed glee.

KU Graduate Scholarships Awarded Baker Students
Two $500 scholarships in the University of Kansas Graduate school have been awarded to two Baker University students, the K.U. scholarship committee has announced.

The scholarships are for the 1951-52 school year and will go to Merle Newton of Wellsville and Richard Holloway of Osawatomie.
