The Brazilian government has made available four fellowships to American students for graduate research in Brazil during the academic year 1951. Suggested fields are Portuguese language, Brazilian history and literature, but other research subiects are not prohibited. Each fellowship carries a cash award of 2,300 cruzeiros a month, approximately $125, for ten months, a sum sufficient to cover moderate living expenses. A candidate will need his own funds for travel while in Latin America and for any incidental expenses not covered by the stipend. Candidates must present proof of: 1. American citizenship 2. A Bachelor's degree from an American college or university of recognized standing (or meet this requirement by the time of departure.) 3 A good knowledge of Portuguese. 4. Good academic record and capacity for independent study. 5. Good moral character, personality and adaptability. 6.
