Conley Scores TD Against Lobos
KU found its way to paydirt early last Saturday against a Bali coach who broke loose around kick, end for, and for a 2-yard eagle near the ground.
The score came with only two minutes and 35 seconds gone in the game and paved the way for the 48-23 Jayhawk trumpth. Moving左 to right and top to bottom Conley takes the handoff from quarterback Dan Heck and heads the trickplay created by the crunching blocks of kick Bobby Childs (77), guard Gary Cooper and guard Hobbie Childs (77).
Breaking into the clear at the 20-yard line, Cain races for pavidyr behind excellent downfield shocking.
Down to the 10-yard line, New Mexico cornerback Bruce Markham has the last chance at making the stop but ends up grasping nothing but air as Conley joyfully ends the results in the end zone with the official signaling the result.
Lobo cornerback Donald Dungan (24) makes a fruitless effort to pull the speedy Jayhawk down but only after a pass.
Conley, who is KU's second leadless rusher this year (8-10), was the carrier for average. Finished Saturday's action with a rushing attack from Arlington Heights, Ill., only took over the number of yards on his 35th reception, weeks ago when the Jayhawks traveled to Syracuse. He responded against the Orangemen with his best game of his collegiate career, 64 yards rushing, and now appears to be ready for a playoff run.
Conley also returns punts for the Jayhawks and currently ranks fifth in the Big Eight in that department.
