Polk county Welfare Director Leland Ahern said today. He said the parents had "covered up" the fact that seven of their 17 children were employed, although members of the family were riding in taxicabs and wearing "dressy" clothes while the welfare department gave it $50 to $60 a month in groceries and furnished clothes for the children. Ahern estimated total relief payments, which began shortly after the couple was married, at more than $10,000 in cash in addition to food and clothing.
