K-State Blind Vet Has 2.85 Average A 25-year-old veteran who lost his sight while fighting in Belgium with General Patton's army started his second year at Kansas State college this fall. He completed his freshman term with a grade average of 2.85—only .15 of a point from perfect. He is John Slachen of Arkansas City, who since he was in high school, hoped to study livestock farming. Despite the war and his blindness, he is reaching his goal with the help of the vocational rehabilitation act (public law 64).
