UNIVERSITY DAILY KANSAN, LAWRENCE, KANSAS PAGE FIVE WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 10, 1947 Invitations Are Sent For Relays Preliminary invitations to the 23rd annual Kansas Relays were mailed to 250 schools this week. The Relays will be held on Saturday, April 17, following the high school meet on Friday. The Kansas Relays is the only meet in the country to include the decathlon in its card of events, and three other A. A. U. events have been added to the list. They are the 440-yard hurdles, the 3,000 meter steeplechase, and the hop, step, and jump. All four will be open to A. A. U. competition. Extreme emphasis will be placed on the Glenn Cunningham Mile, which will be run this year at 1500 meters to aid in Olympic preparation. University relays and individual winners will be awarded Kansas Relay wrist watches; college division winners will receive desk clocks; all second, third and fourth-place winners will be given special Kansas Relays medals. A. Trovillo, chairman, said today.
