Professor Mattern was given first place in the oil painting division with "Buffalo Wallow." Mr. Sudlow won the watercolor division with his painting "Underground Spring." Over 200 resident artists from Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Colorado, South Dakota, and Nebraska submitted 585 paintings for the exhibition which included oil, water color, tempera, and gouache paintings.
