Union Broadcasts Are 'SUPA'
Pahdon the "Suthen' accent," but "SUPA" does mean "super" broadcasting system!
"SUPA" is the new Union activities radio relay call sign and according to Thornton Cooke, activities announcer, the call sign is in keeping with the program series the new system will be relaying to the students this year.
Variety Of Programs
The activities station will include regular programs relayed direct from the major networks and a series of programs from the activities new record files.
The present record schedule will include "Waltz Time," a daily fifteen minute program of Viennese waltzes by Johann Strauss: "Jazz Jamboree," forty-five minutes of swing music and jazz classics; "Hit Parade," thirty minutes of the current hit tunes; and "Music from the Concert Hall," a program of classes and semi-classical music by outstanding
composers and symphonic orchestras plus news, and special Union announcements.
The major network relays will include various musical and news broadcasts that are on the air during the SUPA relay schedule.
A new record file is being compiled and added to the present activities record collection, augmented by donations of current disc releases from the major recording companies. In most cases, the new releases will be available to SUPA before the local stations receive their record releases.

So many traffic violations were issued the first weeks of school, the parking committee was unable to keep up with the violators. At one time the employees of the parking committee were behind 38 days in mailing the violations, and it became necessary to hire another clerk. Several students have been finned more than $15.
These fines must be paid before enrollment next semester.

Have Some Exclusive Rights
"Capital record releases will be featured by our relay station, under exclusive rights for this locality, at least a week ahead of the regular radio companies in the district," B r u c e Bathurst, announcements chairman said.
All Programs for the activities broadcasting system will be selected by the announcements committee, and activities announcers, Thornton Cooke, Robert Bottoms, and Fred Six, and approved by Bruce Bathurst and Peggy Sue Cloyd, announcements committee heads.
"Citizens First, Veterans Second" was more than just a motto when the Kansas chapter of the American Veterans committee unanimously voted upon a recommendation for Congress to furnish relief for Europe before considering increased subsistence payments to veterans.
AVC Votes For Relief
The A.V.C. recently passed a resolution saying, "We, the members of the K.U. chapter of A.V.C., request that Congress act upon legislation necessary to the implementation of the Marshall plan for aid to Europe. We also request that price controls be reinstated upon food commodities and other products which have sky-rocketed in price since the removal of O.P.A."
"Iincreased subsistence payments for student veterans are needed, but we feel that price controls would take care of the inflation in basic commodities, which affects student veterans the most. A.V.C. sponsored the House bill for raises in subsistence, but because of the urgent need for relief in foreign countries and inflation in the United States, we request that the matter of subsistence not be taken up at the special session of Congress."
